Happy New Year!

Hooray! You made it! You survived 2024!

Before we go any further, let’s take a moment to remember those we lost. We mourn those who were swallowed up in that stinky Sarlacc Pit called 2024. Even though they’re not here to read this amazing new blog, we honor them.

As you survivors look toward 2025, I want to leave you with a few hopefully encouraging and helpful words. The year ahead is full of uncertainty and will undoubtedly contain a mix of good and bad experiences.

Both the sublime and the devastating await us. We just don’t know how much of each we will encounter or in what order 2025 will present them. To help you — and to help me process my own thoughts about a challenging year — I have created a list of the Top Ten Lessons I learned from last year.

Each of these pithy sentences conveys deep lessons that God has been trying to teach me. I’ll take time to unpack and explain these ideas in future articles.

Ten Lessons from 2024

  1. Everything that happened (both good and bad) was intentional and absolutely necessary.
  2. The bad experiences are often more helpful than the good ones.
  3. God knew exactly what I could handle and didn’t give me more than that.
  4. God never abandoned me, even when I couldn’t always see Him.
  5. God used me more than I realized (or “I’m not that big of a loser”).
  6. God is still working on me (or “I’m still a huge mess”).
  7. My painful experiences became the source of my confidence.
  8. Nothing will never be perfect, so you might as well just start!
  9. God is at work all around us!
  10. God sees me.

These are the top ten lessons I learned in 2024. How about you? What did last year teach you?
